52 week challenge - Week 4

Well, I do have some fantastic results this week, if I do say so myself!! Looking forward to next week too, because I will do my once a month picture and measurement update as well. But for today, I am pleased to report...

275, 3 pounds lost, 9 total to date!!

Also, on the Biggest Loser Challenge I got 49 points this week. That is out of a possible 70, and one shy of the 50 point goal I set for myself. So I am feeling good about that too. If you want to stop reading now, you can....

However,

I would love some advice. In my first post about the Biggest Loser Challenge, I said that the two areas I was worried about getting my points in were 8 hours of sleep a night, and 5 servings a day of fruits or veggies. Surprisingly, I have done great in both of these areas. And now, after two weeks of the challenge, the one area I have never scored a point in any day is NO SUGAR!!! It is so my weakness!!! I will take any and all tips on how to curb my need to have sweets, especially chocolate, every day!! I thought it would be easy since I gave up chocolate for three years, but my willpower for sugar still hasn't kicked in!! HELP my friends!!!

You need to replace it with something else. Try music, walking, reading, coloring, sewing, gardening, gum, praying. You get the idea. You are retraining your brain and it's going to take time, but you can do it!
Awesome job Caradon!!!!

I always struggle when I set a goal to cut out sweets because I often don't feel satisfied after a meal without something sweet so I have been finding sweet snacks that are healthier. I get the little bags of freeze dried fruit from Costco or apple with peanut butter, or an apple sprinkled with cinnamon baked and topped with a little granola, or I'll make a small parfait with plain lowest yogurt, frozen berries and granola or cheerios or I'll make an over with crystal light and ice that way I can get a low calorie dessert and feel happier about my meal! Good luck, way to go, keep it up!

Do you have to give up all sugars or just processed sugars? You can do amazing things with honey, agave, rice syrup, etc and they are natural sugars. My favorite is local raw honey for many reasons: 1-there are quite a few health benefits, 2-it is 2x as sweet as sugar (so you use half as much, and 3-it is easy to sub in recipes (whatever the sugar is use half that of honey and then decrease the fat by half). You can also replace the fat with a healthier fat like coconut oil or a fat substitute like mashed white kidney beans or applesauce.

I'm with Jennifer- Honey is a great substitute! I think you are doing amazing, congrats! I have lots of "sweet treat" ideas, so we'll have to try them another day(not today!):)

while you are getting to the point that you can replace chocolate with something I would buy a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips and ration out 30 of them that is 70 calories and 3 times a day you get a small snack of 10 chocolate chips. I have to do that. I am the type that does better with moderation rather than nothing. If I can have some I am able to do better in the long run because I don't eat the entire bag of chips that enters my house. (I did that by the way) Another thing you can do is have an exercise right after you eat the chocolate chips. so that you work it off! Good luck you are awesome!

Fantastic Job Caradon!!! I agree with Becky, just because I'm one that isn't good at going without either. I would rather cut back that nothing at all!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!

I agree with both of the last two posts. I have told you so many times, Caradon, never tell yourself you can't have something or you will want it that much more. I like the idea of chocolate chips. Sometimes, that is the only thing sweet I have in the house, if anything at all! That has helped me--not having sweets in the house, just ingredients. I am usually too lazy to actually bake cookies, so I am not tempted. Don't tell yourself, "I want to be able to have sweets for Brad and the kids..." They don't need it either and there's always the checkout stand for a treat every now and then for the boys. Brad can have treats at work if he needs them. Good luck, and remember that I am reading your blog and using you as inspiration!!
